Emperor penguins on extinction road

Melting sea ice and overfishing have triggered a dangerously rapid decline in penguin populations on the Antarctic peninsula.

The gentoo, chinstrap and adélie – along with the emperor, the largest penguin species in the world – are now struggling to survive as melting sea ice destroys nesting sites and reduces vital food sources, such as krill.

Warmer temperatures are forcing penguins to raise their young on increasingly thinner and more precarious ice floes, while stronger winds mean many eggs and chicks are being blown away from their parents before they are able to survive on their own.

Emperor penguins, which breed during the harsh Antarctic winter, are likely to see their numbers plummet by 95% by 2100.

Chilling prognosis for Antarctic penguins

The Antarctic peninsula is warming five times faster than the average rate of global warming, the WWF warns, and the vast Southern Ocean has warmed all the way down to a depth of 3,000m.

A penguin species made famous by Hollywood is heading towards extinction, scientists have warned.

Emperor penguins could be on the verge of being wiped out before the end of the century, according to researchers in America.

The species, immortalised in the 2005 film March of the Penguins - which followed their trek across Antarctic ice - is under threat because of climate change.

If rising temperatures continue to melt sea ice at current rates, the population size of a large emperor penguin colony in Terre Adelie, Antarctica, will shrink from 3,000 to only 400 breeding pairs, a paper by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) claims.

The grim predictions were based on evidence from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Biologist Stephanie Jenouvrier, from WHOI, said: "If the future behaves anything like the IPCC models predict, the Terre Adelie population will decline, probably dramatically."

Co-author Hal Caswell added: "The key to the analysis was deciding to focus not on average climate conditions, but on fluctuations that occasionally reduce the amount of available sea ice. This analysis focuses on a single population because of the excellent data available for it.

"But patterns of climate change and sea ice in the Antarctic are an area of intense research interest now. It remains to be seen how these changes will affect the entire species throughout Antarctica."

The paper, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, used mathematical models to predict the effect on penguins of climate change and the resulting loss of sea ice.

Sea ice plays a critical role in the Antarctic ecosystem - not only as a platform for penguins to breed and feed - but as a grazing ground for krill, tiny crustaceans that thrive on algae on the underside of the ice. Krill, in turn, are a food source for fish, seals, whales, and penguins.

RSPCA - How you can help

For more than 180 years the RSPCA has been working to relieve the suffering of animals, and much of its work has been funded by the generous gifts of animal loving individuals.

The RSPCA has never received any direct financial support from the government, yet the costs of preventing cruelty and promoting kindness never seem to stop rising. Our running costs are currently over £95 million a year.

Of course, animal lovers can support our cause in many ways because no matter how large or small the contributions, everything helps towards giving an animal a better life.

There are many ways of sending a donation to the RSPCA. You can make a credit card donation online or send a cheque/postal order/credit card donation by post. Overseas payments may be made by Eurocheque or international money order. Unfortunately we cannot accept foreign cheques due to high bank commission rates.

Here are a few examples of what your donation could do:
£5 could feed a cat for a week
£10 could safely board a cruelty case horse for a day
£25 could kit out an inspector with hard hat, boots and life jacket
£50 could help equip an inspector's van with an animal first-aid kit, pet carrier and animal catching set

Homeless Dog?!

When I went to Turkey on holiday, I found a puppy on the street, a homeless and very small dog. The breed they refer to that particular dog is called a "Kangal". It's a Turkish popular breed and they can grow very big and tall once looked after with. They are a livestock guardian dog - pretty much like a Shepperd dog. She is a female puppy, cute, adorable and friendly.

So, after my flight to London, I gave it to my best friend there to look after it. Unfortunately, when I went back there (Turkey), I heard the sad and terrible news that it had escaped! I was shocked. I felt so sad and fell into tears. The pictures and videos below are a tribute and memories to my great discovery of a homeless pet, yet I will never forget "him".

Chipmunk Maniac

I have managed to put up my chipmunk, a relatively known as the former breed of a squirrel. Yes, it's the maniac chipmunk. I have 1 Agouti male chipmunk that I currently look after and I am wanting to breed it. Please contact me about the age as I really don't know the birth date of the chipmunk but I've had him for a while now. I currently want an Agouti chipmunk (which is brown/black colour), female and at an average age to breed and willing to buy it. Please note that a Dilute chipmunk is not preferred as I don't really fancy the white ones. Not sure what chipmunks are? Click here to find out! My Chihuahua Collage

This is one of my PSP (Paint Shop Pro) work. It is one of my male chihuahua collage with added visual effects and multiple images. He's name is Lucky, one adorable, cute, sweet, healthy and very friendly pet. He is almost 2 years old and I am looking for a female chihuahua (white/cream preferred) to breed it with. I think he's mature and old enough to breed and have litters of their own so if you are interested, please contact me as soon as possible. Anyway, the work looks very great to me and only took me several hours to produce it. I have many other ones as well and I will post them at once. At my free time, I study and make collages or edit images using CAD (computer aided designs) such as Photoshop and other related soft wares. If you have any thoughts about this, then please comment! For pets that I sell, it will only go to good and caring homes where it is safe and has a friendly environment. Please also make sure that you have appropriate space to keep the specified pet as your own as well as making sure that you feed them daily, look after them temperament (for example breeding and going out for a walk).

I do not ship any pets using a delivery courier as this service offers high expense rates and no insurance. Cash on hand only please. If you are willing to travel, please make sure you contact me first to get a time and date upon arrival to pick up the pet. If you are a local, you are welcome to visit me at any time.
